I’m so excited to share this photo shoot with you. It’s not everyday that a girl gets to wander around New York with her camera, so let’s just say I was extremely inspired. New York was my “muse” for this session. I wanted to do a hopelessly romantic and quintessentially New York shoot. Our bride – Liz – is a fabulous fashion stylist in New York whose gown features a show-stopping cutout in the back (you’ll see below). Of her wedding day Liz says, “I don’t think Josh noticed the back until after the ceremony, and he said, “Wow! I’m glad I married you!”"
Liz and Josh are a Brooklyn couple that had gotten married a month earlier and were about to leave for their Hawaii honeymoon (at the crack of dawn the morning after our shoot). The chemistry between them undeniable, and I love them for running all over New York with me in the August heat, and still looking spectacular and hopelessly in-love the entire time.
Let’s start this story at the end. We ended the day at Brooklyn Bridge Park — I love this park and the expansive views it offers up of the bridge and the city skyline. We shot at sunset, when the light and colors were seriously magical.
Liz had this to say about it: “Josh and I talked about getting elements of Brooklyn into our wedding day, but sadly it was too much of a hassle to trek everyone over to that park or any other landscape that read specifically “Brooklyn.” I get the chills when I see the images of us together with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. It’s so romantic! So us! I still can’t believe that was all captured so perfectly and it looks like it was a scene from a film!”
This is my favorite thing about a newlywed session – we can go absolutely anywhere, at any time of day – without the restrictions of the wedding day schedule. Its all about location, location, location as they say.
Speaking of stunning locations, I had seen unbelievable pictures of the abandoned palace at 5 Beekman Street in editorial fashion spreads and I had this tingly feeling about it. I just had to shoot there. Built in 1882, Beekman Palace is a hidden treasure in the middle of the financial district. It is nine stories that enclose the most gorgeous atrium in the city, and a beautiful iron and glass skylight. It feels like old-world Europe actually – a completely different world. The views of City Hall Park from the roof are breath-taking. Our whole crew was just blown away by this space.

Uma, I just wanted to say it was such a wonderful experience to have you be part of our wedding day. I remember all the fun we had in the hotel room, peaking out looking for Ajay’s barat. It was really comforting to be able to spend such a special time with such an amazing person. I think you look at beauty both inside of people and outside of people. You are able to use such artism when capturing your photographs. Your photographs speak for themselves and they almost encapture what a ravishing personality you yourself have. I think that anyone that does not have the pleasure of working with you or John on their wedding day is missing out. To a lifelong friendship. Thank you so much!
Thank you
Sonia you were such a joy to photograph! I know you’re focused on boards right now, so good luck with the studying – you’ll do great. I just think all those kids that are going to get you as their doctor are unbelievably lucky. Thank you again.
I was doing a project for my son and googled “Indian Florida Gator,” and imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon my dear friend, aka lil’ bro Ajay’s wedding pictures. Absolutely stunning!
What a small world it is, I’m so glad you stumbled onto Ajay’s photos! Thank you Suhag.
