I took around 70,000 images last year. It’s a lot of pictures to go through, but I actually love this annual ritual of looking back. Especially when the editing process is over (WHEW) and I can just sit back and look at my year from this perspective. We had so much fun!! On the beach in Cancun, throwing holi powder, dancing up a storm – it was all a celebration of love. It’s no contest, my couples are the best. They are wonderful human beings and I love them. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite images from last year.

Happy 2o16! Every year I tear my hair out, going through THOUSANDS of images from a year’s worth of weddings to choose my 50 favorites for a ‘best of’ gallery in January. In 2013 we decided to go wild and design an entire digital magazine to showcase my favorite photos from the year. It turned out so well that we decided to do it AGAIN! Because, who needs to sleep, really. Our second annual book is finally here and I’m deee-lighted to share it with you!

Meet Allie and Chris! This intrepid couple braved an outdoors photo shoot – in Austin in the summer – and lived to tell the tale. I love, love, love the locations they chose. Laguna Gloria with it’s classic style and we all know how I feel about Zilker Park. This gorgeous watery hideaway is my favorite spot in Austin, with or without a camera

Wow, Dallas! I had no idea you were so gorgeous. And just so many options – everywhere I looked, I saw the perfect backdrop. You know what they say: location, location, location. I can’t say enough about how important photogenic locations are when it comes to these photo shoots. Imagine my delight when these lovebirds presented me with the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. It feels like something out of the Great Gatsby. What. A. Treat.

We finished at the Winspear Opera House and the Arts District. I have to admit, I wish we had such dramatic architecture to work with in Austin!

I’m beyond honored that the editor-in-chief of JUNEBUG WEDDINGS asked me to be her wedding photographer. I am feeling blessed! The most wonderful brides and grooms just keep showing up…. Carrie is the talented, smart and stylish woman at the helm of my favorite wedding blog. She’s a born and bred Texan, graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (hook em horns) and is getting married on a bona fide Texas ranch. Her wedding dress is something truly special and is going to blow you away. But I’m getting ahead of myself! First, the engagement session. Meet Carrie and her handsome Phil.

I’m beyond honored that the editor-in-chief of JUNEBUG WEDDINGS asked me to be her wedding photographer. I’m giddy with excitement! The most wonderful brides and grooms just keep showing up and I am feeling blessed. Carrie is the talented, smart and stylish woman at the helm of my favorite wedding blog. She’s a born and bred Texan, graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (hook em horns) and is getting married on a bona fide Texas ranch. In Austin we’ve had gray skies and temperatures in the 30s for weeks. Except for last Thursday afternoon. Carrie pulled some strings to get us a warm, sunny day with blue skies. We headed to Laguna Gloria, one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Austin.

You can read about Carrie’s adventures as she goes “From Blogger to Bride” on Junebug. Spoiler alert: the gorgeous colors she picked for her autumn wedding are cranberry, gold and dusty blue.

Junebug was founded by photographers and has the highest respect in our industry for showcasing the best wedding photography in the world. No pressure or anything right?

I want to share this epic shoot with everyone! Sadie and Aneel met in 8th grade and started dating in 9th. Twelve years later, they’re getting married. How lucky are these two? When I’m around them, it’s clear they’ve known each other since age fourteen. Truly a love for the ages.

I want to share this epic shoot with everyone! Sadie and Aneel met in 8th grade and started dating in 9th. Twelve years later, they’re getting married. How lucky are these two? When I’m around them, it’s clear they’ve known each other since age fourteen. Truly a love for the ages.

I’ve noticed that when you put a couple in a canoe, you can suddenly see how strong (or not) their connection is. A boat has a sneaky way of sliding around the water. It takes solid communication and patience to work together towards a common goal. And these two? They were in perfect sync. They worked together seamlessly to row their boat exactly where I wanted it to be on the water… right into that gorgeous golden hour light.

I can’t stress enough how important locations are in a photo shoot! Sadie settled on two of the most photogenic locations a photographer could ask for. The combination of a wonderful couple and gorgeous locations made for an incredible photo shoot.

Is it still February? Forget the cold and gloom for five minutes and spend some time with this warm, sunny, romantic engagement session!

Could these two lovebirds be any lovelier? If you have a love affair with bold, beautiful colors like I do — you’re going to want to see this engagement session. This was my first time in Chicago, and I was so blown away by how photogenic this city is. We stayed around the Art Institute, and everything from the gardens to the architecture inspired me. It was a photographers dream.

I bet you can’t even tell that it was SO COLD and windy on the day of our shoot! Tara and Rohan were resilient in the midst of the elements. The warmth of their affection for each other is what really strikes me.

I can’t wait for their Cancun wedding. Is it May yet?

Engagement picture tips by Austin Indian wedding photographer

I adore the last line! As a long time professional photographer, I’ve learned that it pretty much sums up everything you need to know about looking good on camera. But perhaps you’re searching for more concrete advice on what to wear for your engagement session. Unless you have a lot of experience in front of the camera, you may be wondering: what colors should I wear? Do I need to get my hair done? If only you had a personal stylist finding the best looks for you! Not to worry. Looking flawless and photogenic is easy if you follow these simple guidelines.

1. THE CAMERA LOVES COLOR

Tip number one – color is gorgeous on camera.

If your outfit features mainly neutrals or softer shades – which is totally fine – think about adding a color somewhere in your accessories. Shoes, nail color, scarf etc. Or a bright lip color. A pop of bright color is fabulous.

2. SOLID BLOCKS OF WHITE CAN BE PROBLEMATIC

Cameras get fooled by lots of white. But don’t let this get you down – there are exceptions to this rule. For example if you have a gorgeous white dress that fits you perfectly, ignore this rule. Fit is more important than anything!

3. TIME FOR A MANICURE

Your hands will be in many of your photos. Holding hands, showing off your ring, running your fingers through your fiancés hair… these are all likely scenarios during your photo shoot. And depending on your shoes (are you wearing strappy sandals or a peep toe heel?) you may want a pedicure too.

4. COORDINATE YOUR COLOR PALETTE WITHOUT BEING MATCHY

You don’t want to look like twins!

5. THINGS LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT IN PERSON THAN ON CAMERA.

I suggest grabbing your iPhone, snapping some full-length selfies in the mirror, to see how a camera “interprets” your outfits. That will give you a rough idea of how an outfit is going to play on camera. Then email your pics to your fashionista sister (or cousin or BFF) and ask for their advice. A photography tip: take your test shots in natural light (stand facing a big window, or go outside).

6. GET PAMPERED!

Get a professional to do your hair and/or makeup. If for no other reason than it will make you feel more put together and relaxed in front of the camera. Also, it is the perfect opportunity to try out a new look or a new stylist for your wedding, sangeet, reception etc. Think of it as a trial run before the Main Event.

7. SHOW OFF YOUR BEST ASSETS

If you need some help identifying your best features (or just narrowing them down!) ask your fiancé. This is a prime opportunity to hear them talk about your sexy legs or gorgeous eyes or luscious hair.

8. IGNORE THE RULES AND DO WHATEVER YOU WANT

At the end of the day – don’t get overwhelmed with rules.  Take the tips that work for you – and throw out the rest. If there’s any secret to dressing well, it is to wear what makes you feel really good.

Seriously.

Indian engagement photos by top Austin Indian wedding photographer

When you are relaxed and enjoying yourself, it shows in your eyes and through your body language. And the camera picks up on those cues. Remember, your engagement session is all about capturing the special bond between you and your fiance. So it doesn’t really matter if you’re wearing pink or yellow or red or even zebra stripes – remember to enjoy the experience, and you’ll look gorgeous!

Happy 2014! In honor of engagement season, I’d like to share this photo shoot from December with you. Emily and David are such a heartfelt, kind and affectionate couple – and their warmth made up for the chilly weather. It was a blustery, wintery, sunny day in Austin. Blue skies and golden light. Tousled hair and rosy pink cheeks. We wandered around Laguna Gloria before heading downtown. I love doing engagement photos in downtown Austin. There’s so much to choose from. Enjoy!

Austin is such a romantic city, don’t you think? At times it feels almost… Parisian.

Ooo la la! Perhaps I’m getting carried away. Still, there’s no denying this is a magical place. And the perfect city for a photo shoot.

Congratulations, to this awesomely wonderful couple. Can’t wait to photograph your wedding later this year!

Today I’m thrilled to bring you advice from Austin’s leading wardrobe stylist, Cristina Facundo. Are you wondering what to wear to a professional photo shoot? Do I need to get my hair done? If only you had a personal stylist finding the best “looks” for you. No fear. Cristina is happy to share her insider fashion styling tips with us!

Today I’m thrilled to bring you advice from Austin’s leading wardrobe stylist, Cristina Facundo. Are you wondering what to wear to a professional photo shoot? Perhaps you’re getting ready for an engagement photo session with your wedding photographer. Unless you have a lot of experience in front of the camera, you may be wondering: what colors should I wear? Do I need to get my hair done? If only you had a personal stylist finding the best “looks” for you. No fear. Cristina is happy to share her insider fashion styling tips with us!
intro1
Cristina is the lead wardrobe stylist for Austin Monthly Magazine, and styles for runway shows, live TV and commercials, among other markets. She worked as a wardrobe assistant at New York Fashion Week for designers Oscar De La Renta, Zac Posen and Vera Wang, to name just a few. She’s pretty much a rock star!

I collaborated with Cristina on a bridal inspiration photo shoot earlier this year and got to see her in action. Needless to say, I’m thrilled that Cristina is sharing her expert advice.
title2
one
Be yourself!
At the end of the day, you want to look and feel like yourself. This will show in the photos. When I have to take photos for anything, I always think to myself, look like you but a polished version. This leads us to rule 2 and 3
two
Give yourself a good polishing!
As I mentioned above, look like yourself but a polished version. If you are a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, that’s great! But pick a dark slimming jean, add an ankle boot and throw on a statement necklace. If you have a more classic style, have fun with it! Take a note from J. Crew and style a printed collared shirt under a solid dress. Engagement photos should never be stuffy but rather playful!

three
Pamper yourself.
Spend the time pampering yourself before the shoot. A manicure and pedicure is a quick way to make yourself feel put together. I typically curl my own hair but I like to spend the money on makeup. Do your research and ask other friends for recommendations who have recently married.
four
All rules apply for your groom.
If they have scruff, let them have scruff. Just clean it up! Men won’t suggest it, but I’ve never had a boyfriend who didn’t like a pedicure.
five
Pay attention to your surroundings.
If you’re shooting outside or on grass, stay away from green or colors that will blend in to the background. Otherwise, no color is off limits!
six
Be prepared!
Have these five wardrobe emergency essentials on hand. Static remover, double sided tape, clamp (give yourself a waist by clamping some material of your outfit in the back), compact mirror (make up on teeth happens to all of us), and tissues in case you get a little shiny.
