You guys, get ready for some SERIOUS STYLE. Houston lovebirds Khalid and Aliyah came to me looking for something different for their engagement and wedding pictures. Khalid told me that he and Aliyah love the look of editorial wedding photography. I adore working with clients who are looking for something more unique and creative than the norm. So this weekend, we had some fun creating this set of images together. Enjoy!

Yes, those trees are painted blue. This artist from New Zealand did it, and he did it with environmentally safe pigments. There’s an entire grove of trees painted this way. Pretty amazing right?

The original plan was to shoot there during the afternoon, but by the time we arrived it was completely dark. I’m so glad it happened that way though. I love how the darkness adds to the surreal-ness of the blue trees.

A couple of weeks ago, on a crazy windy day in the heart of Houston, I spent a couple of hours photographing this up-for-anything duo. We met up at the uber-stylish Hotel Zaza (may I just say, I CAN NOT WAIT to photograph a wedding there), and worked our way from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston into Hermann Park.

Sumaira and Farid are getting married in August in Austin — but they live in Houston, so they felt strongly about picking a quintessentially Houston location. I think we nailed it. After all, that’s good old Sam Houston you see perched atop his horse!

For me, there’s something magical about the color palette of these images. The later we got into the photo shoot, the more everything appeared to be bathed in a light wash of pinks and purples. The sun played tricks with me that day, darting out from behind the clouds every few minutes, as I scrambled to keep up with the constantly-changing light conditions. But as the day wound down, there was this slightest touch of ethereal light falling on everything.

We ended up at dusk at the gorgeous reflecting pool, lights twinkling in the distance. It was a windy, cold day (ok, cold for Texas! I am spoiled), but you’d never know it from the warmth and love that practically pulsates from this pair of soon-to-be-weds.

Without further ado, I present you with Sumaira and Farid’s engagement photo shoot.
