The email read, “Congratulations—your portfolio was selected as one of the 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography 2013!” I held my breath. The thought omg omg omg this is too cool running through my head. “This is our magazine’s second year hosting the competition for emerging wedding photographers, and we were extremely impressed by the quality of work submitted. It’s an honor to include you in this special issue, and keep in mind you were chosen because your images impressed us as being fresh, technically sound and possessing a distinct voice and personality.”

I received that tidbit of good news a month ago. But we weren’t allowed to say anything publicly until the November 2013 issue of Rangefinder Magazine was released. Which just happened this morning. Sooo FINALLY I’m happy to announce that I was chosen for the ‘Top 30 Rising Stars” list! Yay!!

I’m grateful to the editors at Rangefinder for this honor. Read the digital edition of the magazine here and look for the print edition of the magazine on newsstands soon.
As for me, I think it’s time to pour a glass of wine and savor this happy moment!

A couple of months back, with my fingers and toes crossed, I submitted Tazin and Naveed’s wedding to Maharani Weddings with the hope of making it into their exclusive Winter Magazine. This gorgeous publication is chock full of glamorous Indian wedding inspiration. Lucious florals, fashions, food — it’s pure eye candy.

The photographs they pick to showcase are just stunning. You can imagine just how happy I was to learn that Tazin’s wedding was 1 of only 6 weddings picked to be featured. That in itself was a fantastic present! Tazin and Naveed’s wedding is not only one of my favorites of all time, but they are also two of my favorite people. Adjectives like “sweet” and “kind” don’t quite do them justice.

And then the magazine was released. That’s the first time I saw the cover. Wow. Surprise! There Tazin and Naveed are on the very front cover of the Maharani Weddings Winter Magazine! How cool is this?

I have to admit, I love this image. It is one of my favorites from 2012, and I’m so happy to share it with Maharani’s readers. I remember this moment like it was yesterday – the sun was at that perfect spot in the sky (just minutes before slipping below the horizon). Rich colors and beautiful light, this is what photographer’s dreams are made of.

And… there Tazin and Naveed are on the back cover. Wow times two! Thank you, Maharani, for this honor.

I couldn’t put it any better ♥ As 2012 draws to a close, I wish all of you so much love, laughter and happily ever after.

Lastly, here are the five gorgeous inside spreads from the just-released Maharani Winter Magazine. Enjoy!

A couple of months ago, I was exploring the nooks and crannies of downtown Westerville looking for portrait locations for Kristin and Byron’s wedding day. Turning down College Ave, I stumbled across Serendipity. It’s a coffee house and ice cream shop in a beautifully restored historic house…

…there’s a hand-knitted tree cozy out front, made by owner Debbie Mitchell’s sister. As I was snapping away, I met Debbie, who told me that she likes to feature the work of local artists in her shop. She offered me the opportunity to show my photographs. Talk about Serendipity! If you go to their website, you’ll see this definition:

Ser⋅en⋅dip⋅i⋅ty [ser-uhn-dip-i-tee] – good fortune; luck. Serendipity is defined as the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.

Ha. This is truly a serendipitous place. I went looking for one thing, and found something else unexpected and wonderful.

Serendipity is a funky, eclectic place that offers up mouth-watering-ly delicious ice cream. There’s free wifi and a pretty porch out front with a big swing made for two. If this place looks familiar, it’s because I took the entire bridal party at Kristin and Byron’s wedding there for pictures. Later Kristin confided that the mint chocolate ice cream cone was the only thing she ate on her wedding day!

Here are some of the prints up around the shop…
