I took around 70,000 images last year. It’s a lot of pictures to go through, but I actually love this annual ritual of looking back. Especially when the editing process is over (WHEW) and I can just sit back and look at my year from this perspective. We had so much fun!! On the beach in Cancun, throwing holi powder, dancing up a storm – it was all a celebration of love. It’s no contest, my couples are the best. They are wonderful human beings and I love them. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite images from last year.

Happy 2o16! Every year I tear my hair out, going through THOUSANDS of images from a year’s worth of weddings to choose my 50 favorites for a ‘best of’ gallery in January. In 2013 we decided to go wild and design an entire digital magazine to showcase my favorite photos from the year. It turned out so well that we decided to do it AGAIN! Because, who needs to sleep, really. Our second annual book is finally here and I’m deee-lighted to share it with you!

These are my three favorite things about this stylish wedding brought to you by the fabulous team at CLINK: First, the most STUNNING modern mandap you’ve ever seen. Second, the most ADORABLE puppy (Mowgli) and three, this joyful couple ❤

These are my three favorite things about this stylish wedding brought to you by the fabulous team at CLINK: First, the most STUNNING modern mandap you’ve ever seen. Second, the most adorable puppy (Mowgli) and three, this joyful couple ❤

This has been the year of adorable dogs for us here at Studio Uma. Nearly every engagement session we’ve done has included at LEAST one canine companion. Plus a handful of our 2015 weddings as well. Not that we’re complaining… we’re suckers for these cuties!

This couple flew their little pup out to Austin from Seattle to celebrate with them, and he completely stole the show. Amila even had a henna tattoo of Mowgli drawn on her arm.

Enjoy!

Dogs should be at all weddings don’t you think? Especially these two. Abby and Simon were all dressed up as bride and groom and pretty much STOLE THE SHOW.

It was a perfect spring day in April for Dahlia and Ryan’s Four Seasons wedding. In fact, they got married twice in one day! The Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Austin is one of the most beautiful locations I know for a wedding. I love fusion weddings, and this was no exception. The day blended the Bengali Hindu rituals of Dahlia’s family with those of a traditional American wedding. Hands down, this was one of the best Four Seasons weddings I have been to. There was so much awesome at this wedding, between the TWO ceremonies, the gorgeous saris, the confetti explosion on the dance floor (you’ll see) and of course Abby and Simon.

Enjoy!

I dare you not to fall in love with Krishna and Rishi. Go ahead, just try to resist the charms of ‘RishKrish’! These two lucky ducks dreamed of being married outside. But with a February wedding date, no one was expecting it to actually happen. Amidst this unusually frigid, gray winter we’ve had in Austin, we were blessed with this one bright, warm Saturday in February. And that just happened to coincide with Krishna and Rishi’s wedding at the beautiful Oaks Event Center in Austin. I mean seriously – even Mother Nature warmed to these lovebirds.

My favorite part of their wedding was being around this family that is just SO close and so loving. You can see it between Krishna and her affectionate parents. And Krishna’s haldi ceremony was the most intense I’ve ever seen! Let’s just say it was payback time for her cousins. They rubbed banana in her mouth, up her nose, and poured water on her. A water fight just broke out amongst everyone. Uncles were being carried out in blue tarps. Like I said – close family! It was a joy to behold these wonderful moments.

Dear friends, Happy new year! Bonne année! Ein glückliches neues Jahr! Hauoli Makahiki hou! Szczesliwego Nowego Roku! Feliz año nuevo! Chuc mung nam moi! I am thrilled to share my favorite 50 photos from the year with you.

2014 brought weddings and engagements in Mexico, Virginia, California, North Carolina, Chicago – and of course all over the great state of Texas. THANK YOU to my warm, funny, loving clients. I am always thanking my lucky stars that I get work with such big-hearted brides and grooms.

Lots of love to my talented team of editors, second shooters and assistants, who were and are such a wonderful support. Special thanks to Izzy Ramirez, Ashley Landis, Brie Mullin, Greg Lovett and Julia Robinson.

In June I was thrilled to be ranked fifth on the Top 20 Wedding Photographer’s in Texas by Bridebox — woohoo! Last year also brought in 7 new Fearless Photographer Awards.

Speaking of Fearless, another highlight of the year was attending my first Fearless Photographers conference in Arizona in November. I love being a part of this group/family.

How did it get to be January so quickly? Once again we find ourselves at the beginning. Without further ado, I’d like to present my favorite photos from 2014.

Wishing you love and light in 2015,

Uma

What. A. Year.

I wish I could tell you 2014 was all love and light for me. But it was not. It was intense and painful at times, and that’s why when I look at these pictures I am filled with deep gratitude that I had these jewels of moments to fill me up.

Here’s what I learned… A certain darkness is needed to see stars.Osho.

I’m absolutely surrounded by stars.

There’s something AWESOME I want to share with you. I collaborated with a talented graphic designer at Mae Mae Paperie to design this stunning book. There’s nothing I love better than design and books, so I am jumping for JOY!

We wrapped our first wedding of this year on January 3rd. What a beautiful thing a new year is! These 2015 brides and grooms – wow. Prepare to be dazzled by this group.

To whet your appetite, here is a link to my first Gallery Book. The second one is going to be even better.

Happy spring everyone! I hope the birds are chirping in your neck of the woods and the trees are slowly turning green. If not, check out this sunshiny wedding from last summer! It’s just the thing to brighten your outlook until the snow melts. Sumaira and Farid celebrated at one of the best Austin wedding venues – beautiful Lakeway Resort and Spa. Sure, Texas is going through a drought and the water level is a bit low, but the views of Lake Travis are still absolutely breath-taking don’t you think?

Shooting a wedding in a stunning natural landscape (like Lakeway) allows me to do what I love most: cinematic wedding photography. It sets the tone for a truly romantic wedding. Enjoy!

It was a cold and rainy day in November. We had been planning and plotting for WEEKS to do this opulent Indian bridal fashion inspiration photo shoot outdoors – on the lush grounds of Chateau Polonez in Houston. But Mother Nature had other plans, and thanks to the dismal weather we were forced indoors.

Luckily I believe everything happens for a reason…

… and especially this! As it turns out, exploring the European-inspired architecture inside Chateau Polonez was a true blessing. The interior rooms were the perfect location to capture our theme of Victorian Romance.

I love being able to bounce back and forth between real weddings and editorial fashion photo shoots like this one. If you’re familiar with my work, you probably know that I love editorial style wedding photography. What does that mean? Basically, its the style of photography you see in fashion magazines. Whether I’m working with brides or models, I’m aiming for a certain look: high fashion bridal portraits.

Interestingly, my fashion experience has really helped me become a better wedding photographer.

Working with models helps me so much with posing and lighting my real brides. And I had such a blast working with the lovely Kairavi and Alison on this shoot. Top wardrobe stylist Sobi Qazi outfitted the girls in the most stunning bridal saris and lenghas. And the jewelry? Jaw-droppingly beautiful! I’m in love with that headpiece. And the black lace mask? Gorgeous!

This was one of my favorite photo shoots all year, so we decided to design several spreads showcasing Victorian Romance in our “Best of 2013” digital magazine! Here’s a peek at the magazine:

I enjoyed getting to work with some of the best Indian wedding vendors in Houston on this photo shoot! Special thanks to the talented and energetic Sobi Qazi for coordinating this photo shoot. I came to Sobi with a kernel of an idea, and she basically waved a magic wand and everything came together perfectly.

Alright I know it wasn’t quite THAT easy! But she made it look effortless.

Three epic days in Houston with Aliyah and Khalid. If you remember these two from their Houston engagement session a few months ago, you know this stylish couple owns any room they walk into. In October I photographed Aliyah and Khalid as they celebrated their marriage. There was a pithi, a sangeet, a nikkah, a mehndi, western ceremony and a reception. One of my favorite Ismaili wedding traditions is the egg ceremony… if you haven’t seen one before, prepare for some (messy) fun.

Of all the wedding venues in Houston, the Hilton Post Oak and Hotel Derek are two of my very favorites. You’ll see why below.

Over the summer, I flew back to Ohio to shoot this gorgeous Hindu wedding. They literally closed down 2 city blocks in the heart of downtown Cincinnati for the groom’s baraat. The architecture was stunning – Hilton Netherland Plaza is an Art Deco masterpiece dripping with history. But the best part about this wedding? The fun-loving people. The bride, the groom, the guests. Everyone was having the time of their life. I’m so excited to share one this with you.

Can you tell this is one of my all-time favorite weddings?

That last photo with the bridesmaids is one of my favorite moments from 2013. These girls were so much FUN to photograph – and they were up for anything. Neha and Vedant, I wish you two lovebirds a very happy life together, filled to the brim with joy. Can’t thank you enough for being such fantastic people.

Thank you, too, to Junebug Weddings blog, for featuring this wedding! Click here to see it all.
